Bachelor of Science in Social Work

Description

The UCCI Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Programme prepares graduates for generalist social work practice and making an impact in institutions, organisations, and communities in the Cayman Islands and beyond.

In addition to offering students a solid foundation in liberal arts and in social work knowledge and skills, the programme prepares eligible students to pursue graduate education in schools of social work and other related fields.

Our students are required to attend local conferences and to participate in seminars in order to expose them to new knowledge and practice approaches in related areas such as mental health, trauma, and domestic violence. This emphasis lays the foundation for their commitment to lifelong learning and continued professional development throughout their careers.

  • Class Caps: 15 students

  • Career pathways

This undergraduate programme prepares graduates for social work practice in public and private social services settings throughout the Cayman Islands. Our students are trained for employment in agencies that offer counseling and psychotherapy with individuals and families, and to work with groups and communities to provide or improve access to health, employment, education, and children services. In addition to being qualified to enter careers that focus on helping service users to obtain tangible services, our graduates are prepared to support judicial institutions and legislative processes and for careers in public administration, social policy and planning, education, and community rehabilitation.

  • Research/internships possibilities (like Math Lab, Writing Lab, CFA Challenge, or any other UCCI opportunities for excellent students)

The B.S.W. students progressively gain knowledge and develop practice capabilities through four field practicums, totaling 640 hours. Students are given the opportunity to learn and build professional experiences through agency placements in Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac.

The Programme is committed to ensuring that our graduates are eligible for registration as licensed social workers under the laws of the Cayman Islands and are adequately prepared to practice with integrity and advance the programme’s reputation and knowledge base.

  • Outreach & Impact (Community involvement, local industry collaboration) -- JDMM will check the annual reports, but please add anything that gets overlooked.

The social work faculty and students are dedicated to supporting the needs of the vulnerable persons in the Cayman community through service and community engaged partnerships.
